Reflection Week 2 : C/LMS (Learning Management System).

Assalamualaikum WBT.

For this week, we need to  one more assignment. The activity is THINK, PAIR, and SHARE. I have did some research and reflection about THINK, PAIR, SHARE. You can CLICK HERE to have a glance about what is THINK, PAIR, SHARE.

From the mine research that I have made, what I can conclude about C/LMS is, it is basically more or less about e-learning. It is very helpful to those who are in education field actually.

What is C/LMS?
LMS is an interactive system made to ease the education management system. It is applied by most of the students. For example, in UKM we use SPIN system. It is very helpful to the students as it helps them to get the information faster. Most importantly, when it comes to last minute cancellation about lecture or lecture notes download.

Who uses C/LMS?
Like what I said before, C/LMS is very useful to the students or those who are in education field. The students uses C/LMS to get the information about the lectures, tutorials and the lecturers too. Besides that, C/LMS helps the students to get the lecture notes faster. For example, the students can download the notes before the lecture starts and can do some revision. When they came to the lectures, the learning becomes easier and simpler.

Where C/LMS was used?
Usually, the C/LMS was used in many educational institutions. Public higher institutions for example, use it as a medium to connect the students with the lecturers. A part from that, the daily schools are also using this system.

Why C/LMS was used?
For the very important reason, C/LMS is very fast, easy and helpful. The C/LMS was very easy to use, as the students just need to have their own unique password to get through the system. It is very user-friendly as it does not require any complicated features.

Besides, the usage of C/LMS is very helpful to the students and lecturers. It can save the lecturers' time to do photocopy of the notes or the tutorial questions. A part from that, it is very convenient to the students because the can use the C/LMS wherever they go at any time.

How C/LMS works?
A students should have their own password to access to the system After the log on to the account, they can have the view of the system. They can choose whether to download the questions, note or assignments. They can also do some online quizzes.

In UKM, we use SMP web to administrate students records. Besides that, the SMP web is also used for course registration and students data record. The students can also register their examinataion through SMP web.

Meanwhile, the SPIN web is used for connection between the students and the lecturers. Any announcement about lectures or classes, they students will know it from the SPIN web. At the same time, the students can also download lecture notes and tutorial question through SPIN web.

The Advantages of C/LMS.
Basically, it has four main advantages, which are :
  1. Centralizing Learning Environment.
  2. Easier tracking and reporting for enhanced performance.
  3. Immediate Evaluation Abilities.
  4. Regulatory and Legal Compliance

However, to make it simpler, the C/LMS makes out management task becomes easier. We do not have to submit the data one by one. With C/LMS the students data and records are available online and it makes the administrators' job easier. The students also can save their time to do revisions.

The open source software lists for C/LMS.

Finally Completed!

Assalamualaikum WBT.

Greatest praise and gratitude to Allah SWT for giving me this chance to finish my assignment. Alhamdulillah, I was meant to collaborate with my coolest friend ever, Adira. To be frank, this is our first "baby" together. This is the first assignment that we do together. Even though we came from the same UiTM, I was still haven't got any chance to cooperate with her. Fortunately, this is the first one and I really hope to cooperate with her again. She is such a very determine girl and I really adore her spirit and enthusiasm in finishing our project.

I was almost gave in, but at last she tries to confine me that we can finish the project together. Thank you Adira. You helped me a lot and I really owe you endless favor.

To be frank, our first Computer in Education is slightly tough and challenging for me. When I was in UiTM Kuantan and taking Introduction to Computer I think, the task was also quite hard. I was also in the same situation which I got myself stuck in the middle of finishing the task. The history repeated again where I felt so frustrated when I could not do my very best at first. Alhamdulillah, I have made it by the way. I really hope this would turn out to be the sweetest repay for us.

Reflection : THINK, PAIR, SHARE.

Assalamualaikum.

It has been three weeks since I first register here. So it means, I have learnt Computer in Education for 3 weeks. How time flies so fast. Okay, first thing first. What is the newest and most important thing that I have learnt so far. It was about THINK, PAIR, SHARE. It is definitely such a new thing for me who never got exposed with these kind of things.

Basically, what I understand THINK, PAIR and SHARE is a cooperative learning which requires students (me) individual participation. This process undergoes three steps :

  1. THINK is where we need to think creatively about the question that had been given. We got to search about Open Source Software.
  2. PAIR is where we were grouped into pair or triplet. We can exchange ideas and give responses about other's opinion and points. Basically, it was like a discussion.
  3. SHARE is where we need to share it with the whole class. This gives us more confidence to present with our partner. It is very good as the ideas become more concrete and solid through this three steps.
In my opinion, this strategy helps to improve my communication skills. It helps me to give more confidence to talk and communicate among my classmates during discussion session. At the same time, it enhances our understanding about the topic as we undergo many stages before start presenting.

I really hope I can apply this strategy to other subjects too. That's all I think. Thank you.

Reflection : Database

Assalamualaikum wbt.

Today we are learning about "database". AT the beginning, I really have no idea what database is. How ever, after we were told by our lecturer in our class, we eventually got a crystal clear view on what is "database".  So,

DATABASE  is an organized collection of data for one or more purposes, usually in digital form.

If we have created a database, we do not have to use the traditional method in managing the information. We only need the server to access the record. SO, there is no more SHELVES for recorded data!

We need to key in the "tables" for the arrangement of information.
For example, if we want to separate the column of  "Student's Name" and "Student's ID Number", then we have to put it in separate tables.
We can add the record (student's name) in "Datasheet View" mode.

The ribbon above shows the selection of "Adding Table" and etc.

So, database is very useful for a teacher to manage the student's information. As a student from Faculty of Education, it gives me a lot of advantages in order for me to use the method when i started teaching.

A part from that, I find that database is something fun to do. Maybe it gives a bit headache, but actually it
boost your focus of finding information. We will become more alert about the latest information.

Introduction.

Assalamu'alaikum WBT.

First and foremost, alhamdulillah all praise is due to Allah for giving me this golden opportunity to be one of the UKM-ians. It has been almost a month since I first got myself registered here. Time flies so fast. I still haven't got the chance to get myself used with this new environment. I hope, sooner or later I will get used to it. InsyaAllah.

To be precise, this is the second blog of mine. For sure, I will take a good care of it as what I did to my other blogs. This blog was created purposely for my Computer in Education subject as it is one of the assignments that we need to complete.

This picture was taken during the registration day. I looked so happy, but who knows what I feel right?

At the beginning, I was acknowledged by the senior that this subject will be taught in Malay. However, it was a bit surprising when we went to our first meeting and it was conducted in English. So far, I can get myself used to the new technology terms that I have never known before.

From this course, I expected myself to get accustomed with the new technology world. InsyaAllah, I will not let myself left behind this rapid development of technology. I hope, one day when I finished my study and start to teach I will have an adequate technology skills to make sure that my teaching methodology is interesting.

First Week Class.

Assalamualaikum WBT.

Alhamdulillah, I have gone through the first day in UKM. So far, everything went well. What I can say, UKM for me was such a bless. I should be grateful of what I have now.

Yesterday (12 September 2011) was supposed to be my first Computer in Education class  However, there a bit problem regarding to the schedule and we, the TESL students could not have the chance to attend our first class in the first week. However, I did a bit research on the internet and I found it was helpful.

In this Computer in Education class, I expected a lot of IT knowledge will be learned for me. I came from a rural area school which is lack of IT opportunities. I really hope that, when I get through this course for this semester, I will have an adequate knowledge in technology.

As a new generations, I am aware that IT literacy is very crucial. Most of the things was based on technology. For example, in UKM we use technology to make things become smoother especially in administration field.

So, I really hope that one day when I had graduated from UKM, I will become an intellectual graduate whether in my study field or technology. For sure, I really hope to become a teacher with adequate IT knowledge.
